Freshmark, Inc., doing business as Sugardale Foods, a Canton, Ohio firm, is voluntarily recalling approximately 13,000 pounds of ready-to-eat ham because the products may be underprocessed, the U.S. Department of Agriculture�s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.
All products being recalled were produced on Aug. 23 and 27, 2001 and bear the establishment number �EST. 92� inside the USDA seal of inspection on the label.
This ready-to-eat ham was distributed to retail and institutional establishments in Arizona, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
The following products are subject to recall:
- �SUPERIOR�S BRAND VILLAGE TAVERN Brown Sugar Cured BONELESS HAM� in 5 lb. bags with product code WB9337, �SELL BY 12-09,� and production date code 2935. This product was distributed to retail establishments in Ohio and Kentucky.

- �SUPERIOR�S BRAND VILLAGE TAVERN BONELESS PIT HAM WITH NATURAL JUICES� in 10-12 lb. bags with a product code BV9335 and production date code 0984. This product was distributed to institutions and retail establishments in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York.
- Super Tru Brand Meats �Prestige Brown Sugar BONELESS HAM� in 5 lb. bags with product code BV9335, �SELL BY 12-09,� and production date code 2955. This product was distributed to retail establishments in Michigan, Arizona and Louisiana.
�Because of the potential hazard of foodborne illness, I urge consumers who have purchased the suspect product not to eat it and return it to the place of purchase,� said Margaret O�K. Glavin, FSIS acting administrator. �FSIS is informing the public so consumers who may have purchased and stored the product in their refrigerators or freezers can know to check. Diners may also wish to ask if their meal contains the recalled products.�
Sugardale Foods identified this problem after receiving a consumer complaint. No illnesses or injuries associated with consumption of these products have been reported. Anyone concerned about an illness should contact a physician.
