Spinach Recall Expands. Includes Wegmans, Cadia, Meijer, Target, Amy’s and more.

Due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, a number of products from major stores and brands are involved in this spinach recall. This includes frozen spinach as well as products that contain spinach, like ravioli and soup.

The following Recalled Products contained spinach that was supplied by Coastal Green Vegetable Company LLC of Oxnard, CA, which initiated a recall of the bulk spinach on March 20, 2015 due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Consumers who have purchased an affected product are urged to not consume the product and immediately return the product to the store where they purchased it for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the retailer at which they purchased the affected product.
